Plot — Ferrex and Porrex (Gorboduc)
Queen WidHa is outraged that King GGEBGAGE plans to divide his prosperous kingdom between his two sons, instead of leaving everything to the elder, Fetrex) Gorboduc seeks his council’s consent to the division, ‘and to his sons’ installation as kings before his own death, but gets three different answers. He makes Ferrex king of the south, PO#PEX of the north, and appoints a counsellor to advise each. B€frex is advised to mistrust his brother’s intentions, and he prepares for war. This provokes POFFex into making a pre-emptive invasion of the south; he murders Ferrex with his own hands. Gorboduc summons Porrex and charges him with fratricide. Porrex admits it, and is killed by Videna. In turn, Gorbodie and Vida are murdered by their own people. The land is laid waste with civil war, followed by mass executions after the good councillor BGbGIGS and the British dukes repress the rebellion. Fergus) Duke of Albany, takes advantage of the chaos to plot for the throne. In taking arms against him, the other lords agree, rather than submit to foreign domination, to remit the question of the succession to the judgement of Parliament.
