Plot summary
Plot — The Spanish Tragedy (Hieronimo is Mad Again)
Don Andrea) Beleimiperia’s secret lover, was separated from her by the war with Portugal and killed in battle by Baltazar Now the powers of hell have promised him vengeance, and he and R@Véfige sit down to watch it worked out in the play. In the course of the action Andrea expresses mounting impatience, while Revenge makes him wait, sleeps, and finally takes control of the action. Spain wins the war and Portugal agrees to pay tribute. Balthazar has been taken prisoner, and is committed to DGFSHZO!s custody. BElAImperia is wooed by Balthazar, and the King plans to settle the succession on their issue, thereby uniting Spain and Portugal. But Bel-Imperia cannot accept her dead love's killer, and opts for MGFatiG instead. Lorenzo learns of this by suborning her servant Pédfingafio, who then assists him and Balthazar in murdering MOratio! Miéroninie finds his son’s body hanging in his arbour and swears revenge, but his wife counsels patience while heaven puts matters right. In Portugal, Willipps falsely accuses AUSXandrS of murdering Balthazar in battle. At the last moment Alexandro is saved from burning at the stake by the arrival of the Ambassador from Spain with news that Balthazar is alive. Alexandro is released and Wiliippo condemned. Béleimpera is imprisoned by DGFeHZ6) but writes Hieronimo a letter in her own blood. Fearing a trap, Hieronimo investigates, but his suspicions alert Lorenzo. PR@HigaHG is persuaded to murder his accomplice]/Sérbenine] on promise of a pardon; but the box supposedly containing it is empty, and Pedritigane’s confident jesting on the gallows ends with his execution. An incriminating letter found on his body confirms the guilt of Lorenzo and Balthazar, but HigfonimiG is so far unhinged by grief that Lorenzo finds it easy to prevent him informing the King; his mental state also inhibits him from the efficient discharge of his judicial responsibilities. ISB@lla also goes mad and cuts down the arbour before killing herself, but Hieronimo rejects suicide, preferring revenge. Beleimperia is now to marry Balthazar, and the Micero6yMicomes from Portugal. for the ceremony. HieronimiG organizes his revenge under the pretext of the entertainment: a tragedy of SHISHA and PERSeda} in which he and Bel-Imperia kill Lorenzo and Balthazar ===== PAGE 372 ===== in earnest. Bél@lmipéria kills herself, and MieronimG bites out his tongue to avoid interrogation, then stabs the Duke of @aStilé and himself. DOnlNAKGEEd is avenged, and Revenge promises…
